Footnote: [Beware spoilers!] Perhaps I should have added that the idea of Daniel/rock 'ship in 'Evolution' - part 2, came about from the following facts:

In the two episode arc, Daniel had succeeded in his mission of finding and recovering the artefact, almost drowning as he did so. Thereafter, he was kidnapped, marched - bound and blindfolded - through the jungle, was starved and tortured without divulging anything, effected an escape for himself and Doctor Lee, hid Lee when he couldn't go on any further, and led their pursuers away from him. He was then shot in the thigh and threatened with being skinned alive - a threat which Raphael was certainly capable of carrying out.

At this point, Jack finally shows up after a gentle stroll through the woods and says, referring to Daniel's ventilated leg, "You be able to walk on this?"

Where were the congratulations on a job well done? Where was caring after all Daniel had been through? Where was the camaraderie, thefriendship? Nowhere in sight. He'd shown more concern for the chance-met guide Rogelio.

Yup, Daniel got a whole lot more comfort from that darned rock, a.k.a. Rosetta Stone.
