Queen is renowned the world over - including Patagonia, Easter Island and Outer Mongolia - as one of the foremost rock bands of all time, and certainly the most exciting to watch. While this is known to millions, very few people know of the more unusual exploits of the band from before they were famous. For many years, these have been shrouded in secrecy owing to the natural modesty of the band and their unwillingness to court publicity. Now these strange adventures can be told, and you, dear reader, are one of the few to hear them...

These little stories were written after the death of Freddie Mercury of A.I.D.S. related causes on 24th November, 1991. Shortly after his death, it seemed that an awful lot of journalists and other writers, most of whom claimed to be lifelong friends of Freddie, rushed into print with unauthorized biographies which we suspected they would not have dared to bring out in his lifetime... So, as a lifelong friend of the band's members *cough* I thought I'd add my account of some of their exploits. Naturally, these are all perfectly true in every detail.

The Secret Chronicles first saw the light of day at the seventh (I think) International Queen Fan Club Convention at Southport. This annual event was organized and run by Jacky Gunn, the estimable secretary of the Fan Club and her sister, Val Moss, in conjunction with Keith and co. of Arena Travel, Felixstowe. With Jacky's kind permission, I printed out and sold these tales in 'zine form, all the proceeds going to two of the band's charities, The Mercury Phoenix Trust and The British Bone Marrow Donor Appeal. If you have enjoyed these madcap adventures, perhaps you might like to make a donation in Freddie's memory?

Note 1 ~ the B.B.M.D.A., of which Brian was patron, has now closed its doors but there are other interesting links on their site.

Note 2 ~ If you want an accurate biography of Queen, I recommend: Queen: As It Began by Jacky Gunn and Jim Jenkins (with Dr. Brian May) published by Sidgwick & Jackson I.M.P. ISBN: 0 283 06052 2
