Manners

When I was just a little girl,
My Mama said to me,
"When you go see your little friend,
And stay there for your tea,
Always remember, darling girl,
Say, 'Thanks for having me.'"

I listened to this good advice
My Mama gave to me.
Made lots of friends and all of them
Said, "Won't you stay for tea?"
I aye remembered as I left
"Say, 'Thanks for having me.'"

When I became a teenage girl,
Those wise words stayed with me.
By now, my friends were mostly boys
Said, "Won't you lay with me?"
I still remembered as I left
"Say, 'Thanks for having me.'"

So now that I am all grown up,
With one small boy of three,
I teach him all the manners that
My Mama taught to me,
As I tuck him up at night, he
Says, "Thanks for having me."
